Installing the STSTM is a relatively simple affair, using a minimum amount of tools and skill.

You start by performing a basic field strip on your metal bodied AR; first removing the front (and in some cases rear) body pins, and sliding the upper receiver off of the lower. At this point, you should be looking clearly at the hop-up assembly in the upper receiver, and the gearbox in the lower.

Before the STSTM can be installed, you must first ensure that the unit will fit cleanly into your upper receiver. On some metal receivers, such as those manufactured by D-Boys, there is a plastic piece inside the receiver, below the ejection port, that must be sanded down to allow installation of the STSTM. Also, test fit the unit onto your hop-up assembly and ensure that it slides over the feed tube smoothly. If it hangs up at all, sand down the sides of the feed tube slightly to allow for a proper fit. We recommend that you run a small file along the front of the gearbox shell, both above and below the air nozzle, to ensure a flat and smooth surface to transfer the impact energy into the STSTM unit.

Now that you've insured that the STSTM will fit both the hop-up unit and the receiver itself, it's time to install it into your gun. First, ensure that the set screws are loosened to allow the two gold colored lugs to compress into the STSTM and spring back out. Don't unscrew them too much, or they will come out entirely. Now, with the hop-up and barrel installed in the upper receiver, place the STSTM on the hop-up unit, with the gold lugs pointed towards the front of the gun, ensuring that it is clear of any wires (if your gun is wired to the front), and that it is securely on top of the hop-up. If the gun is wired to the front, you may find it necessary to lengthen the wires slightly to allow for the extra slack needed to go around the unit. Leave the two set screws loose for now.

You can now slide the upper receiver back onto the lower receiver normally, ensuring that any relocated wires are still clear, and that the gearbox is sitting flush with the STSTM. Install the body pins like normal, however, watch out for any change in alignment of the holes, and use care when inserting the pins to prevent any accidental body damage. Once the pins are installed, you can flip the gun upside down, and look into the magwell. You should be able to clearly see your new STSTM unit installed. Use the included hex wrench and tighten the set screws in their current position.

Your STSTM unit is now fully installed and in position to redirect the impact energy from the front of the gearbox shell into the body of the gun, thereby preventing gearbox shell failure that plagues V2 gearboxes. Because of the constant energy transfer going through the unit while firing, the set screws will loosen after time, and must be re-tightened occasionally, preferably after each game, to prevent any lapse in gearbox protection.

If you choose to remove the STSTM from your gun, just reverse the installation instructions, and remove it from the gun, leaving no permanent detrimental alterations.
